What is Corian?
Every day more and more people decide to use Corian for all kinds of projects: kitchens, bathrooms, design furniture, accessories and complements, … If you are one of those who still do not know this material and would like to know more about it, in today’s post we explain briefly what Corian is. Corian is basically a synthetic material for solid surfaces formed by 1/3 of acrylic resin and 2/3 of aluminum hydroxide, developed and manufactured by the American company DuPont. The Corian brand (DuPont), is one of the many brands that are part of the Solid Surface family, specifically the first, since it was the DuPont firm that invented this material, with all the others coming after it. Specifically, Corian was invented in 1967 and commercialized in 1971 in Texas. In short, Corian is an exclusive material that compared to other materials in the same sectors of application, is equally or more economical and undoubtedly offers much more.
Composition of Corian
As we have said before, 1/3 is acrylic resin (PMMA) and this proportion is what gives it the elasticity and the possibility of being thermoformed, thus obtaining an infinite number of designs for our accessories made in Corian. It is completed by 2/3 of aluminum hydroxide (aluminum trihydrate), which gives it its characteristic hardness and resistance to shocks and heat, since it can withstand up to 110ºC.
